Barrday Composite Solutions to Display New Ultra Low Heat Release Composite Materials at the Aircraft Interiors Expo, Seattle, WA, 12-14 Sept 2011

MILLBURY – August 1, 2011 – Barrday Composite Solutions announced today that it will display its aircraft interior prepreg products and adhesives. The prepregs are tailored to specific manufacturing and performance benefits for laminators, molders, and end users in a variety of OEM & aftermarket interior applications. Some of these areas include crew and passenger compartments, seating, galleys, stowage bins, and partitions/panels, among others.

The Barrday LC family of phenolic prepregs offers a wide range of benefits and can be tailored for the following:

-General purpose or Self Adhesive
-Bag Grade or Press Grade
-Snap Cure or Standard Cure

Of particular interest, Barrday’s new LC294 & LC296 family of high performance interior prepregs provide an industry leading sub 30/30 OSU heat release, combined with low smoke, self extinguishing, and excellent self adhesive properties and surface finish. Additionally, LC296 is a snap cure (10-17 minutes at 265-280°F/130-138°C), toughened, phenolic based prepreg system.

These materials provide extremely low OSU heat release properties allowing engineers much more design freedom and still provide an end product that conforms to FAA guidelines. The new prepreg offerings have already been qualified at a major manufacturer of interior components. Others are in process.

Barrday will also display its fire resistant epoxy formulations. These formulations are self adhesive to aramid and aluminum honeycombs, are self extinguishing, and pass the 60 second vertical burn test as listed in FAR 25.853.

George Geisendorfer, Senior Aerospace Formulator at Barrday stated, “We are very proud of our new line of phenolic based prepregs for interior applications. We have worked very hard over the past year to develop the new LC294 & LC296 family of products. These materials provide a unique combination of properties including an extremely low heat release allowing designers much more freedom to use exotic decoratives and surface finishes while still maintaining FAA requirements.”

Charlie Burton, Interiors Market Manager added, “Barrday has been a leader in the development and manufacture of phenolic resins and prepregs for many years. We plan to continue to leverage this expertise, combined with our world class manufacturing and aerospace quality standards, to build on this new family of phenolic prepregs for interiors.”
